Open Rehearsal

  • Hudson River Landing 145 Palisade Street Dobbs Ferry, NY, 10522 United States (map)

Join MorDance for an open rehearsal of Unwritten, a new work in development by Artistic Director Morgan McEwen. This is not a formal performance, but an invitation into process, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how choreography is shaped through exploration, repetition, and revision.

What to Expect

Guests will observe MorDance’s dancers in rehearsal as Unwritten continues to evolve. You’ll see movement tested, reconsidered, and reworked in real time—revealing the questions, decisions, and discoveries that guide the creative process. The atmosphere is informal and intimate, with time during the process for questions and at the end of the evening for shared reflection and conversation.

About the Work

Unwritten takes inspiration from the U.S. Constitution as a living document, one designed to be revisited, amended, and reimagined over time. The work explores ideas of authorship, participation, and power: who has historically been invited to shape the rules, who has gained access to the table over time, and how we hope that table continues to expand. Rather than offering answers, Unwritten asks how collective responsibility, civic voice, and shared authorship might be embodied through movement.

The Space

This open rehearsal takes place inside the raw industrial space that will become MorDance’s permanent home later this year. Currently unfinished, the 6,500-square-foot facility is in active development and will soon be transformed into a 150-seat black box theater, rehearsal studios, education spaces, and a community hub for performances, classes, and public programs.

This gathering offers a rare opportunity to experience both the creative process and the future home of MorDance at a pivotal moment, before construction begins and as the project moves swiftly toward realization.
